Who We Are

City Volkswagen of Chicago is the same place where owner Anthony Scala had his very first job in life. His father ran the Lynch Auto group back in the ’80s and ’90s and Anthony was a porter in his teenage years. Anthony grew up in Sauganash and went to St. Patrick High School. He continued working as a porter in college at a dealership in Evanston, now City Volkswagen of Evanston.

Anthony saw the car business from a different perspective and vowed to do things differently if he ever had a store of his own. Fast forward nearly 20 years, he is a first-generation car dealer who believes the purchasing and servicing experience should be transparent, convenient, and fun!

Anthony has many local ties as he grew up in the area and still lives locally. He believes in not only servicing the local community but actually being a part of it. Today, the goal is to make City Auto Group the best auto group in the state and a staple in every community.

Our Community

We aren't just in the community, we're a part of it.

Chicago Police Department and Evanston Police Department

Throughout the year, members of the City Auto Group team visit the local police departments near the dealerships on Chicago’s northwest side and in Evanston, buying the departments’ police officers lunch and thanking them for all they do to keep our neighborhoods safe. In Evanston, that relationship has gone beyond seasonal lunches. City Volkswagen of Evanston now leases a vehicle to Evanston’s 311 Service at no cost, and the car has become a staple at local events, from Northwestern football games to the Taste of Evanston.

St Patrick High School

City Auto Group’s co-owner, Anthony Scala, is an alum of St. Patrick High School, and employees at multiple City locations are former Shamrocks. City attends St Patrick’s annual fundraiser, the Green and Gold Gala, as a sponsor, and is proud to support their continuing impact on the lives of young men in Chicago. There is even a City banner up in the St Pat’s gym!

Toys for Tots

City begins their annual toy collection for Toys for Tots every November, and the drive goes right through the holiday season. Each dealership sets up donation boxes in their showrooms, encouraging both customers and community members to help make a difference in the life of a local child. Once the boxes are filled, showroom vehicles are filled with toys and driven to be donated in time for Christmas!

Louie G Food Pantry

The Louie G Food Pantry is a local food pantry that began during the COVID pandemic in Chicago’s Jefferson Park neighborhood, and today has donation centers throughout the northwest side. Since the Pantry’s founding, City has helped with collections for their drives and donated food to local homeless families. Members of the City team also helped staff food collection for the Pantry at a basketball game between Notre Dame High School and St Patrick High School.

Ignite the Spirit

Started by a group of firefighters from the Chicago Fire department, the Ignite the Spirit Fund is a foundation that helps support CFD families. City Auto Group is an annual attendee at the Ignite the Spirit Golf Outing in Lake Geneva, and has helped create promotables for their events and fundraisers.
